Step 1: Add your icon and open Effect Controls
Place your icon on the timeline. A PNG or SVG with a transparent background works best, and you can put it above a background clip or a color matte. Click the icon clip to select it, then open the Effect Controls panel (Window > Effect Controls). Open the Motion section if it is closed. Use Scale and Position if you want to size and place the icon first.
Step 2: Set the first Rotation keyframe
Move the playhead to the start of the clip, which is where you want the spin to begin. In Motion, click the stopwatch next to Rotation. This creates your first keyframe with a value of 0.

Step 3: Rotate the icon at a later point
Move the playhead forward to where the spin should finish. A second or so is a good starting point for a quick spin. Now change the Rotation value. Premiere Pro counts full turns as well as degrees, so you can type a value with several turns for a fast, multi-spin animation. In the video the icon makes a few full revolutions before it stops. A second keyframe appears automatically, and playing the clip shows the icon spinning around.

Try more turns for a faster, wilder spin and fewer turns for a calmer one. If you end on a whole number of turns, the icon lands upright again, which usually looks cleanest.
Step 4: Check both keyframes
Look at the keyframe area on the right side of the Effect Controls panel. You should see two diamonds on the Rotation line: one at the start and one where the spin ends. You can drag either one to change how long the spin takes. Keyframes closer together make a faster spin.

Step 5: Smooth the spin in the graph
A straight spin runs at a constant speed, so it can look stiff. Click the small arrow next to Rotation to open its value and speed graph. Select the keyframes, right-click and choose Temporal Interpolation > Ease In and Ease Out. Then drag the Bezier handles to shape the curve. A curve that starts quickly and slows to a stop gives the classic spin-and-settle feel.

Tips
- Spin in and out. Hold Alt (Option on Mac) and drag a keyframe to copy it, so you can add a matching spin at the end of the clip.
- Use the anchor point. Rotation spins around the Anchor Point, so keep it in the middle of the icon unless you want an off-center swing.
- Add scale. Keyframe Scale from small to full size while the icon spins for a pop-in effect. Our easing guide shows how to polish it.
FAQ
How do I make an icon spin in Premiere Pro?
Select the icon, add a Rotation keyframe at the start, move forward and change the Rotation value. Premiere Pro animates the turn between the two keyframes.
How do I make the spin faster or slower?
Move the two keyframes closer together for a faster spin or further apart for a slower one. A higher Rotation value with the same timing also makes it spin faster.
Why does my icon spin around the wrong point?
Rotation uses the Anchor Point. Adjust the Anchor Point values so the point sits in the center of the icon.
