What is a MOGRT file?
A MOGRT (Motion Graphics Template) is an animation built in After Effects or Premiere Pro and packed into a single .mogrt file. The creator exposes the parts you are meant to change, like text, colors, fonts and timing, so you can make the animation your own without keyframing anything.
Install a MOGRT in Premiere Pro 2025 and newer
Premiere Pro 2025 moved templates into their own Graphics Templates panel and moved the controls into the Properties panel.
Step 1: Open the Graphics Templates panel
Go to Window > Graphics Templates if the panel isn't already in your workspace.
Step 2: Drag the .mogrt file into the panel
Drag your .mogrt file from Finder or File Explorer into the Graphics Templates panel. You can also click the install button at the top of the panel and choose the file. The template now appears under My Templates.
Step 3: Add it to your timeline
Drag the template from the Graphics Templates panel onto your timeline, above your footage.
Step 4: Customize it in the Properties panel
Select the template clip and open Window > Properties. All of the template's controls are listed there, such as the text, colors, values and animation timing.
The same controls are also in Effect Controls, under Graphic Parameters, if you prefer to work there.
Install a MOGRT in Premiere Pro 2018 to 2024
Older versions keep templates in the Essential Graphics panel.
Step 1: Open the Essential Graphics panel
Go to Window > Essential Graphics and switch to the Browse tab.
Step 2: Install the template
Drag the .mogrt file into the Browse tab, or click the Install Motion Graphics template button in the bottom corner of the panel and choose the file.
Step 3: Add it and edit it
Drag the template onto your timeline, select it, and open the Edit tab of the Essential Graphics panel to change the text, colors and other settings.
Tips for working with MOGRTs
- Missing a panel? Every panel mentioned here can be opened from the Window menu.
- Playback stutters? Set the Program Monitor to 1/2 or 1/4 resolution while you edit complex templates.
- Fonts look wrong? Install the fonts that came with the template, then restart Premiere Pro.
FAQ
Why can't I import a MOGRT through File > Import?
Premiere Pro doesn't import .mogrt files into the Project panel. Install them through the Graphics Templates panel (2025 and newer) or the Essential Graphics panel (2018 to 2024).
Do MOGRTs made in After Effects work in Premiere Pro?
Yes. You don't need After Effects installed to use them, although some very complex templates may need it for rendering.
Where did my templates go after updating to Premiere Pro 2025?
They moved from the Essential Graphics panel to the Graphics Templates panel. Open it from the Window menu.
