Step 1: Add the template to Premiere Pro

Download the template file and drag it into the Graphics Templates window. If you do not see the window, go to Window > Graphics Templates and enable it. On older versions of Premiere Pro, drag the file into the Essential Graphics window instead and open the Browse tab. The template then shows up in your list of local templates. If you need more detail, read how to install MOGRT files in Premiere Pro.

Step 2: Drag the template to the timeline

Drag the template onto your timeline. With the layer selected, open the Properties window (older versions use the Edit tab in Essential Graphics). Everything about the animation is controlled from here, in three groups: Text Design, Animation and Transform.

Step 3: Design the text

Open the Text Design tab. Here you can easily change the text, the font, the font size and the position of the text. You can also add a stroke, a shadow and a glow, and adjust the settings of each to taste. Start simple, since large amounts of effects can make text harder to read.

Step 4: Set the pre-animation style

The Pre-Animation Style section controls how the text looks before it animates. Enable Pre Animation Text Color and change the color, and the text transitions from that color to the original text color as it animates in. You can also set a starting Rotation and a starting Text Opacity for the text before the animation starts.

Step 5: Adjust the animation

Open the Animation tab. Position Offset controls where the text animates from. Increase the Y value and it animates from a lower position on the screen, while a negative value makes it animate from the top. Animation Duration sets how fast it moves. The Animate dropdown lets you choose between animating by characters, words or entire lines.

Step 6: Fine tune the easing and motion blur

Use Ease High and Ease Low to change the feel of the movement and give it a more unique look. A good starting point is to keep Ease High at around 0 and Ease Low at 100. You can also choose a custom Frame Rate and enable Motion Blur to make the animation even smoother.

Tips

  • Animate by words for titles. Words feel natural for sentences, while characters suit short, punchy headlines.
  • Keep durations short. One to two seconds feels snappy for social videos.
  • Try negative offsets. Animating from the top gives a different feel than the classic rise from below.
