All Premiere Pro language codes

Premiere Pro stores its interface language in a setting called ApplicationLanguage. Its value is a short code: two lowercase letters for the language, an underscore, then two capital letters for the region. Type the code exactly as it appears below.

Language Code
English (United States) en_US
English (United Kingdom) en_GB
Spanish (Español) es_ES
French (Français) fr_FR
German (Deutsch) de_DE
Italian (Italiano) it_IT
Portuguese, Brazil (Português) pt_BR
Russian (Русский) ru_RU
Japanese (日本語) ja_JP
Korean (한국어) ko_KR
Simplified Chinese (简体中文) zh_CN
Traditional Chinese (繁體中文) zh_TW

Premiere Pro only switches to a language its installed version supports. If a code does nothing after a restart, set the language for Premiere Pro in the Creative Cloud app instead and reinstall it in that language.

Step 1: Open the Console

With Premiere Pro open, press Ctrl + F12 on Windows or Command + F12 on Mac. A small Console window appears. Then click the menu icon next to the word Console and choose Debug Database View.

Step 2: Find ApplicationLanguage

Click the search field at the top of the window and type language. The list shrinks to a few settings. The one you want is ApplicationLanguage, and the code next to it is the language Premiere Pro uses right now.

Step 3: Type the new code

Click the value, delete the old code and type the code from the table. For Spanish, type es_ES. For Japanese, type ja_JP. Press Enter to confirm.

Step 4: Restart Premiere Pro

Close the Console, save your project and quit Premiere Pro. When it opens again, menus, panels and effect names appear in the new language. Here the Effects panel shows Spanish names after switching to es_ES.

Tips

  • Write down the old code. Note the value before you change it, so you can always switch back.
  • Back to English. Type en_US for American English or en_GB for British English.
  • Follow English tutorials. Most tutorials use English effect and panel names, so many editors keep Premiere Pro on en_US even when the rest of the computer runs in another language.

FAQ

What is the language code for English in Premiere Pro?

en_US for American English and en_GB for British English. Type it as the ApplicationLanguage value and restart Premiere Pro.

What is the Premiere Pro language code for Spanish?

es_ES. For Brazilian Portuguese use pt_BR, for French fr_FR and for German de_DE.

Why didn't Premiere Pro change language after I typed the code?

Premiere Pro only reads the setting when it starts, so quit and reopen it. Also check that the code is typed exactly as in the table, with the underscore and the capital letters.

Does this work on Mac and Windows?

Yes. Open the Console with Ctrl + F12 on Windows or Command + F12 on Mac. The steps after that are the same.
