Step 1: Create a fresh project

Go to the Premiere Pro Home screen and create a new project. Give it any name you like, since this project is only the base for your template. Open it and you will see an empty project panel.

Step 2: Import everything you want available

Now import every asset you want to have ready each time you start a project. That can be your music, your sound effects, overlays, transitions, logos or anything else you reuse often. Drag the folders from your computer straight into the Project panel, and Premiere Pro keeps the folder structure as bins. Organized bins are worth the effort here because you will see this structure in every new project.

Step 3: Save the project as a template

Once everything is in place, go to File at the top left and click Save as Template. If the menu item is hard to see, scroll down the File menu, it sits below Save a Copy.

Step 4: Name your template

A New Project Template window opens. Type a name in the Template Name field, choose whatever you want, and click Save.

Step 5: Pick your template in every new project

From now on, whenever you create a new project, open the Project template dropdown menu in the new project window and choose your custom template. Then click Create.

The new project opens with all your bins and files already imported, so you no longer have to do it by hand.

Tips

  • Update Premiere Pro if it does not work. This feature needs Premiere Pro version 24.2 or newer, so update the app if the template does not load your assets.
  • Keep the files in place. Templates link to your files, so do not move or rename the original folders afterwards.
  • Make more than one. Save separate templates for different kinds of videos, such as long videos and short-form edits.
