Our plugins (made by Adobe Basics)
Full disclosure: Adobe Basics makes the four plugins in this section, so we've listed them first and kept each description to what the plugin actually does. All four work on Mac and Windows.
EaseFlow (easing curves for keyframes)
EaseFlow brings real easing curves to Premiere Pro keyframes. Pick a curve, press Apply, and every frame between two keyframes follows it, with only the keyframes the curve needs added to your clip. Auto Mode eases two new keyframes automatically, the graph editor has snapping, and you can put your favorite curves on keyboard shortcuts. If you change your mind, one Cmd/Ctrl+Z undoes the easing.
Best for: editors who animate titles, logos, zooms and position moves and want precise easing without hand-tweaking Bezier handles.
Price: Paid, in Standard and Pro versions. See EaseFlow for Premiere Pro
BetterFX (fast effect search and apply)
BetterFX is a fast effect search for Premiere Pro. Press one keyboard shortcut, type a few letters, and apply a built-in effect, one of your custom presets, or a third-party plugin effect such as Sapphire and other Boris FX tools. No more digging through folders in the Effects panel.
Best for: editors who apply the same effects many times a day and want to keep their hands on the keyboard.
Price: Paid. See BetterFX for Premiere Pro
QuickPaste (smart clipboard)
QuickPaste is a smart clipboard for Premiere Pro. It lets you paste images, Photoshop and After Effects projects, HEX colors and more straight into the timeline with the normal copy and paste shortcuts, so you skip the separate import step.
Best for: editors and designers who constantly bring graphics, screenshots and brand colors into Premiere.
Price: Paid. See QuickPaste for Premiere Pro
Mako (free one-click panel)
Mako is a free panel that sits next to the Tools panel and handles small jobs Premiere usually hides in menus: one-click adjustment layers, color mattes, new sequences, the transparency grid, unnesting and clearing out empty tracks. It places what you create over the selected clips, at the playhead, on the first free track. There's no account or license key to set up.
Best for: any Premiere Pro editor, especially anyone who adds adjustment layers and color mattes several times a day.
Price: Free. Get Mako for Premiere Pro
The best third-party Premiere Pro plugins
A note on transitions first: Adobe acquired Film Impact in 2025, and its popular transition pack now comes built into Premiere Pro 25.5 and later at no extra cost. If you're on a current version, look in the Video Transitions folder of the Effects panel before you buy a transition plugin.
Boris FX Sapphire (effects and transitions)
Sapphire from Boris FX is one of the largest effects packages for Premiere Pro, with more than 270 effects and transitions and over 3,000 presets covering glows, lens flares, blurs, film looks, distortions and more. It includes built-in Mocha planar tracking and masking, and the 2026 release added a FilmBurn effect and transition made from scans of real film.
Best for: polished, high-end effects and transitions for commercials, music videos and promos.
Price: Paid (subscription or perpetual license), with a free trial. Boris FX Sapphire official site
Maxon Red Giant: Magic Bullet Looks and Universe (color and stylized effects)
Red Giant is Maxon's plugin toolkit for editors and motion designers, and two of its tools are especially useful in Premiere Pro. Magic Bullet Looks gives you over 200 preset film looks plus tools for color correction, film grain and LUTs, while Universe adds a library of transitions, glows, distortions, text and motion graphics effects. Both are included in the Red Giant subscription, which is also part of Maxon One.
Best for: editors who want cinematic color looks and stylized effects from a single subscription.
Price: Subscription, with a 14-day free trial. Maxon Red Giant official site
Neat Video (noise reduction)
Neat Video builds a noise profile from your own footage and uses it to filter out grain from low-light and high-ISO shots, using both spatial and temporal filtering. Version 6.1 added support for Premiere Pro 2026 on Mac and Windows, where the effect appears as Reduce Noise v6.
Best for: cleaning up noisy low-light, high-ISO or small-sensor footage.
Price: Paid (one-time license), with a free demo. Neat Video official site
FilmConvert Nitrate (film emulation)
Nitrate applies film stock emulations built from real film data, with adjustable grain and color response adapted to your camera. It works in Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro, and can export your finished look as a LUT.
Best for: giving digital footage a filmic look with natural-looking grain.
Price: Paid (one-time purchase), with a watermarked free trial. FilmConvert Nitrate official site
Digital Anarchy Beauty Box Video (skin retouching)
Beauty Box automatically detects skin tones, builds a mask, and smooths skin and reduces shine only in those areas, so you don't have to mask faces by hand. Recent versions also add AI-based teeth and eye whitening.
Best for: interviews, corporate videos, beauty content and music video close-ups.
Price: Paid (one-time license or subscription), with a watermarked trial. Beauty Box Video official site
How to choose the right Premiere Pro plugins
- Start with your biggest time sink. If you hunt for effects all day, BetterFX pays off fastest. If you animate a lot of titles, logos and zooms, EaseFlow saves you the most time. If your problem is the look, start with Magic Bullet Looks or FilmConvert Nitrate.
- Check compatibility before you buy. Confirm the plugin supports your exact Premiere Pro version and operating system, especially right after a major Premiere update.
- Test on your own footage. Most paid plugins on this list offer a free trial or demo, so try them on a real project before you commit.
- Compare subscriptions with one-time licenses. A subscription can cost more over a few years than a one-time license, so add up what you would actually pay over the time you expect to use it.
FAQ
What is the best free plugin for Premiere Pro?
It depends on the job. Mako is a free panel for one-click adjustment layers, color mattes and track cleanup with no account needed. If you're on Premiere Pro 25.5 or later, the former Film Impact transitions are also included at no extra cost.
How do I install plugins in Premiere Pro?
Most plugins come with an installer for Mac or Windows: close Premiere Pro, run the installer, then reopen Premiere. Effect plugins then appear in the Effects panel, while panel-style tools open from Window > Extensions or Window > UXP Plugins.
Do Premiere Pro plugins slow down my computer?
Panel and workflow tools, like command consoles or clipboard helpers, use very few resources. Heavy effects such as noise reduction, film emulation and glows add render time to the clips they're applied to, so many editors apply them late in the edit and render previews when playback stutters.
What's the difference between a plugin, an extension and a preset?
A plugin usually adds new effects or transitions that show up in the Effects panel. An extension (or UXP plugin) adds a panel with new tools, opened from the Window menu. A preset is a saved set of effect settings or keyframes, usually built on Premiere's own effects, so it needs no separate installer.
Will my plugins keep working after a Premiere Pro update?
Usually, but a major Premiere Pro update can break a plugin until its developer releases a fix. Check the developer's compatibility notes before updating in the middle of a project.
