Step 1: Open the Project Manager

Save your project first, then head over to File in the top menu and go all the way down to Project Manager. This tool gathers everything your project depends on, so nothing goes missing when you hand it over.

Step 2: Choose the sequences you want to share

In the Project Manager window, the Sequence list shows every sequence in your project. Make sure to select all of the sequences you want to share. Nested sequences are listed separately, so keep them ticked too, or your shared project will be missing parts of the edit.

Under Resulting Project, click Collect Files and Copy to New Location. This copies your project file and the media into one place without changing any of your clips.

Step 3: Adjust the options

On the right, the Options tab lists a few checkboxes. You can simply leave everything off. If you only want to share clips that are actually used, tick Exclude Unused Clips. That way, only the clips that sit on your timeline are copied, and your folder stays much smaller. This is handy when your project bin holds hours of footage that never made the cut.

Step 4: Pick a destination and click OK

Under Destination Path, click Browse and choose where you want to save the project, for example your Desktop or an external drive. Pick the folder and click Select Folder, then click OK in the Project Manager. Premiere Pro starts copying, and a progress window shows how far along it is. Larger projects take longer, so give it a few minutes.

Step 5: Send the folder

When the copy finishes, open the destination. Premiere Pro creates a new folder named after your project with Copied_ in front. Inside you will find your project file together with all the video, audio and sequence files it uses. Zip the folder and send it to your friend, your client or another editor. They can open the project file straight from the folder and everything is linked.

Tips

  • Check the size first. Click Calculate in the Project Manager to see the estimated size before you copy a large project.
  • Keep the folder together. Don't move the project file out of the folder, or Premiere may lose track of the media.
  • Share a zip. Compress the folder before uploading it to a cloud service. It uploads faster and arrives in one piece.

FAQ

How do I send a Premiere Pro project to someone else?

Use File > Project Manager, choose Collect Files and Copy to New Location, select a destination and click OK. Then send the folder it creates.

Why does my shared project show media offline?

The project file was sent without its media. Collecting the files with the Project Manager keeps them all in one folder, so the links stay intact. If media still shows as offline, read our guide on fixing the media offline error in Premiere Pro.

What does Exclude Unused Clips do?

It leaves out every clip that is not used in the selected sequences, which makes the copied folder smaller.
