What BetterFX does

Every editor knows the routine: open the Effects panel, expand Video Effects, find the right folder, scroll, then drag the effect onto the clip. Do that a few hundred times in an edit and it adds up. BetterFX replaces the whole routine with a search overlay that sits over your timeline.

  • Intelligent search. Type a name, an abbreviation or a few remembered letters. gb finds Gaussian Blur, lmc finds Lumetri Color and wrp stb finds Warp Stabilizer.
  • One shortcut. Open BetterFX, search and apply without touching the mouse. The default is Option + Space on a Mac and Alt + Space on Windows.
  • Unified search. Built-in effects, your custom presets and third-party effects all show up in one search bar.
  • Usage-based ranking. BetterFX learns which effects you use most and moves your recent, favorite and most-used effects to the top.
  • Batch apply. Select several clips, apply once, and the effect lands on every selected clip.
  • Custom shortcuts. Give any effect, preset or third-party plugin its own key combination and apply it without searching.
  • Custom presets (beta). Import your own presets, keyframes included, and apply them as fast as any built-in effect.
  • Hide unused effects. Hide legacy Adobe effects or anything you never touch, so the results stay clean.
  • Profiles and appearance. Dark, Light or Glass themes with nine accent colors, and profiles you can export and import on another computer.

How to use it

Getting started takes a couple of minutes. Here is the full workflow, from install to your own shortcuts.

Step 1: Install BetterFX

After checkout, the download appears on the order confirmation page and is also sent to you by email. Run the installer for your operating system. It installs both the BetterFX app and the Premiere Pro plugin, so there is no manual setup. Then open Premiere Pro as usual.

Step 2: Select a clip and press the shortcut

Click a clip in your timeline and press Option + Space (Mac) or Alt + Space (Windows). The BetterFX search bar opens right over your edit. Type a few letters of the effect you want, for example lum for Lumetri Color, and press Enter. The effect is applied to the clip and appears in Effect Controls, ready to adjust.

Step 3: Apply one effect to many clips

Need the same grade or blur on a whole sequence? Select all the clips you want in the timeline, open BetterFX and pick the effect once. BetterFX applies it to every selected clip, so you don't have to repeat the drag twelve times.

Step 4: Let the ranking learn your favorites

The more you edit, the faster BetterFX gets. Effects you use often rise to the top, and when the search is empty it shows your recent effects so you can jump straight back to them. Star the effects you reach for constantly to pin them as favorites.

Step 5: Give your go-to effects their own shortcut

For effects you use in every project, skip the search completely. In the BetterFX panel, click the shortcut field next to an effect or preset and press the keys you want, for example Option + 1 for Warp Stabilizer. BetterFX warns you about clashes. From then on, select clips and press the keys, and the effect is applied.

Step 6: Bring your own presets

If you have saved presets, import your .prfpset files into BetterFX and they appear in search like any other effect. This feature is in beta: keyframes work as expected in most cases, but some presets may not apply exactly as intended yet. If you are new to presets, see how to import Premiere Pro presets.

Who it is for

BetterFX is for Premiere Pro editors who use effects regularly and want to spend less time opening panels and browsing folders. It works for beginners who don't yet know where every effect lives, and for professionals who apply the same handful of effects all day. If your edits are effect-heavy, it pairs well with EaseFlow for smoother keyframes.
