What you can put on a key

A personal toolkit is only as good as what you can load into it. With BetterFX, almost anything you apply in Premiere Pro can become a one-press command.

  • Built-in effects. Video and audio effects alike, from Warp Stabilizer to DeNoise.
  • Your own presets. Save a look once, keyframes included, and apply it as fast as any built-in effect.
  • Third-party effects. Plugins like Sapphire and Boris FX sit right next to Premiere's own.
  • Anything else, by name. Effects without a shortcut are still one search away: Option + Space, a few letters, Enter.

Step 1: Install BetterFX

Your download is ready right after checkout and also arrives by email. Run the installer for Mac or Windows and it sets up the BetterFX app and the Premiere Pro plugin for you. There's nothing else to buy or install.

Open Premiere Pro, select a clip and press Option + Space on a Mac or Alt + Space on Windows. The search bar appears over your timeline, ready for your first effect.

Step 2: Give your go-to effects their own keys

Open the BetterFX panel and click the shortcut field next to an effect or preset. Press the combination you want, such as Option + 1 for Warp Stabilizer, Option + 2 for Lumetri Color and Option + 3 for DeNoise.

BetterFX warns you if a combination clashes with something you already use. Your shortcuts then show up as small tags in search, so you learn them just by using the bar.

Now the move is simple: select the clips, press the keys, and the effect is applied. For what to do after the stabilizer lands, see how to stabilize video in Premiere Pro.

Step 3: Turn a saved look into a one-press command

The most useful buttons are often your own looks. Bring in a .prfpset preset file, like a Cinematic Grade you built for a client, and it shows up in BetterFX search like any other effect, keyframes included.

Give the preset its own shortcut and the whole look goes on with one press, on one clip or on every selected clip. New to presets? Here's how to create a preset in Premiere Pro.

Step 4: Star the rest and hide what you never use

Not everything needs a key. Star the effects you reach for often and they rise to the top of your results, together with your recent and most-used effects.

Then clear out the noise. Click the eye next to an effect you never touch and it's gone from search. One switch keeps Premiere's legacy copies out of your results, and anything can come back from the Hidden tab.

Step 5: Make it look yours and save it as a profile

Pick a Dark, Light or Glass look and one of nine accent colors, right in the BetterFX panel in Premiere Pro. Small tags mark third-party effects and custom presets, and you can switch each tag on or off.

When the setup feels right, click Save As. A profile keeps your shortcuts, favorites, hidden effects, search settings and look together. Export it as one small file and Import it on your other computer, or keep a profile per client and switch anytime.

Why BetterFX is the right toolkit for Premiere Pro

It's built for Premiere Pro and works the way Premiere already works. Effects land in Effect Controls as usual, the bar is a focused overlay that never interrupts your edit, and it stays fast even in large, effect-heavy projects.

You pay once, updates install automatically, and it supports Premiere Pro 2021 to 2026 on both macOS and Windows. Our complete BetterFX guide covers every setting in detail.
