Searching for a SnapActions alternative for Premiere Pro? BetterFX is a focused search bar built for one job: finding and applying effects, presets and plugins in a keystroke.

It opens over your timeline with Option + Space on a Mac or Alt + Space on Windows, and it's yours for $29.99 one-time.

One job, done instantly

Because BetterFX does one thing, there's nothing to set up and nothing to remember. Press the shortcut, type, press Enter. The whole design is about keeping you in the edit.

  • Stays over your timeline. A focused overlay that never interrupts your edit, gone the moment you're done.
  • Intelligent search. Names, abbreviations or a few remembered letters all find the right effect.
  • Usage-based ranking. It learns what you use and surfaces it first, so search gets faster the more you edit.
  • All-in-one results. Built-in effects, your custom presets and third-party effects in one list.
  • Performance optimized. Fast even in large, effect-heavy projects.

Step 1: Open the bar right over your shot

After the guided installer has set up the BetterFX app and the Premiere Pro plugin, select a clip and press your shortcut. The search bar appears over the Program Monitor, so you keep looking at the frame you're changing.

Type lum and BetterFX narrows the list to Lumetri Color and Luma Key as you type.

Step 2: Press Enter and get back to work

Press Enter and the bar disappears. Lumetri Color is now on the clip in Effect Controls, ready to adjust, and your layout hasn't changed at all.

No folders, no dragging, no digging through panels. Select several clips first and the effect goes on every one of them.

Repeat that rhythm through a scene and it adds up fast: cro for Crop, fla for Lens Flare, dnoise for DeNoise on the dialogue. A few seconds saved on every effect becomes real time across a full project, and your attention never leaves the picture.

Step 3: Let the ranking do the work

BetterFX notices which effects you reach for. When you type bl, the blur you use most comes first, ahead of every other match, because it's both your most used and a favorite.

Star an effect to make it a favorite. Open the bar with an empty search and your last five effects are listed, newest first. For a classic use of that blur, see how to blur a face in Premiere Pro.

Step 4: Make the bar feel like yours

In the Appearance tab of the BetterFX panel, choose Dark, Light or see-through Glass, and pick one of nine accent colors. Then clean up the results: hide effects you never use with one click and keep Premiere's legacy copies out with a single switch.

For the effects you apply all day, assign their own shortcut. Select clips, press the keys, and the effect is applied with no search at all.

Why BetterFX is the better fit

  • Nothing to learn. If you can name the effect, you can apply it.
  • Works the way Premiere works. Effects land in Effect Controls as usual.
  • Mac and Windows. Premiere Pro 2021 to 2026 on both.
  • Pay once. $29.99 with lifetime access, free updates and a commercial license.
